When it comes to rattan furniture we are the experts. We can't imagine life without this superior material. It's versatile, eco-friendly, lightweight yet sturdy and above all comfortable. We could go on about rattan's environmental credentials but in a nutshell it is a specific climbing palm that grows up trees in wild forests in South East Asia. Rattan is an invaluable part of life for the forest people providing sustainable income. It grows fast, is biodegradable and easily hand-woven to create a wide variety of rattan furniture including rattan storage and seating. However it's worth knowing that people often refer to any wicker furniture as 'rattan furniture' when in fact it is made from other woven fibres. The simple fact is that unless it's made from rattan it isn't rattan.
Our rattan furniture is entirely handmade by skilled craftspeople in Indonesia and China and we believe that its unique beauty reflects the traditional skills used. Here's the perfect combination - strong and yet easy to weave - for creating our wide range of rattan sofas and chairs but why stop with seating? Choose our rattan storage for the same reasons; our range includes ottoman trunks for living spaces, armoires for the bedroom, drawer units for the kitchen.
And in case you're wondering - as well as rattan furniture, we do offer furniture in other woven fibrous materials like banana bark, plaited straw, bamboo skin and water hyacinth because we love the variety of textures, colours and styles these materials give us.

Caring for your rattan furniture

For use indoors, in a conservatory or outdoors but only if stored undercover.
Do not expose to direct sunlight or rattan will become brittle and fade (conservatory blinds are a must).
If in a hot/dry environment moisten rattan with a plant mister on a regular basis.
In a conservatory rotate pieces regularly so that one piece is not over exposed to direct sunlight.
Vacuum furniture regularly.

Important - Have you checked your measurements?
This is stating the obvious, we know, but particularly when ordering larger items (wardrobes etc) it is important that you carefully measure both the ultimate location of the item and ALSO whether it can be manoeuvred through doors and hallways to get to its destination. If you have narrow doorways or a staircase with tight corners, please be sure to check again and get in touch with us if there's a problem. If rattan loses its natural sheen, use furniture wax to restore the sheen. To touch up light scratches, use a wax scratch removing stick.
