Our buyers believe that the only way to create unusual, unique furniture is to travel the world seeking out suppliers with whom we can develop long-term relationships. Working closely with these talented craftspeople we can discover interesting local materials for our hand crafted furniture and fine-tune the designs that will make our unique furniture stand out in your home. Hand crafted furniture will always have an appeal that cannot be matched by standard flat-pack. There's a history, a tradition and even the occasional quirky touch that goes hand in hand with unique furniture and that adds another decorative dimension to your home. But our hand crafted furniture isn't just a pretty face! We believe function is just as important which is why you'll find workstations, television and entertainment centres hidden behind all that hand carving and unusual design detail.
Our quest to design unique furniture means that we like to seek out unusual materials and re-discover traditional techniques to create hand crafted furniture that is ecologically friendly, sustainable and gorgeous to look at. Here are a few things that make us very excited!
This ticks all the boxes for us - it's ecologically friendly because we only use bark shed naturally so no trees are damaged; it's important for the local tribes and communities who rely on nature for their materials; and it creates unique furniture designs thanks to its comfortable 'give' when woven, unusually flecked surface, contemporary chunky weave and depth of tone. We use it in our
Loreng furniture range.
In the Far East the coconut tree is known as the 'tree of a thousand uses' and we love the way we can use just one small by-product of it - the shell - to create hand crafted furniture that really catches the eye. We inlay small polished tiles of coconut shell into our
Coco Shell range - it's a subtle detail with big impact.
In creating our unique furniture we don't always look for what's new but instead work with designers to recapture the traditions and craftsmanship of a country's history. Inlay is the technique used as early as 3100 BC by the Egyptians of decorating a surface by insetting pieces of coloured materials, usually wood veneer, into depressions in the surface to form patterns. It gives us rich, beautifully ornamented furniture designs - take a look at our
Makada range.
There can be no better way to produce unique furniture than to use age-old woodcarving skills. The range of designs, textures and effects created by woodcarving the world over is infinite. Our
Madura range is inspired by traditional ceremonial Balinese designs representing the sun, earth and life. Each hand crafted piece is intricately carved and will become an important focal point in any room.
