A wool rug is the perfect finishing touch to any room - like a piece of art for your floor. By bringing colour, pattern, texture and warmth a wool rug will make an instant impact and define areas of a room, such as seating or dining.

At The Pier, we feel strongly that our hand-made rugs are unique creations; the fact that they are individually woven means that they will have slight variations in tone and pattern and this is part of their appeal.

We have a wide range of hand-made rugs. Add colour with striking wool rugs; consider our contemporary jute and wool mix rugs or sculpted pile rugs for modern interiors.

With such a choice it helps to be armed with some knowledge before you buy: Our wool pile rugs are woven by skilled craftspeople in India and China. They are gun-tufted which means that individual strands of different colours are punched into the canvas with a hand operated gun. When the rug is fully piled it is finished with jute or cotton backing. The dhurrie is a flatweave rug with its origins in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. It is traditionally cotton, but these days wool is also used. These flatweave rugs are mostly geometric in pattern but sometimes include
flowers and animals. They look great as a wall hanging too.

When you buy one of our Indian hand made rugs, you will see it carries the Rugmark symbol. We support the work of this organization which aims to keep children away from the weaving looms, educates and rehabilitates them and reunites them with their families.

Caring for your wool rug / hand made rug

Wool rugs should be rotated regularly to stop any fading as a result of sun or normal wear. Try to shade rugs from direct sunlight with window shades, shutters or curtains.
Vacuum regularly, but avoid the fringes as they may fray and break.

Specialist rug cleaning is recommended for most of our wool rugs. Avoid machine washing, chemical or steam cleaning.
